We recently got a chance to interview Gino Carpio, aka elbuhofpv. We got into some details about himself and his bustling online community for FPV drones called Project Zen FPV.  Gino describes Project Zen as “A global platform for FPV pilots” and “a united FPV family, unlimited support, content sharing, global pilots.”

Gino is many things: an entrepreneur, a creator, a DJ and event host and also the Founder and President of Project Zen FPV.  Not only that but he’s an avid FPV pilot who flies as a part of team FlightOne as well as RC battery company Ovonic’s drone team.

Here’s what he had to say!

APV:  Thanks for taking the time to talk with us.  Tell us a little about yourself!

Gino:  I’ve been an entertainer my entire life. I started DJing professionally at the age of 17. Being a turntablist was my passion and I continue to exploit my talent every weekend of the year. Along side of DJing I am also an event host (MC). I’ve hosted and DJed all over the world for many huge names including, Victoria’s Secret, the NY Yankees, NY Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, NY Mets, Dolce & Gabbana, Hot 97, a USA president (NDA), worked with artists like Sean Paul, Nina Sky, Sean Kingston, Paul McCarthy, Juganot, A Boogie With The Hoodie, PNB Rock and many more. I love what I do and I will continue this journey!

APV:  Wow what an incredible rap sheet!  With that kind of background, what got you into FPV drones?

Gino:  I’m a videographer and was flying DJI products for a while until one day a buddy of mine told me I MUST try to fly FPV. He was kind enough to let me fly his drone and instantly I was addicted to it. I now have built well over 20 drones of all sizes and want to take this to the next level. With my videography knowledge and musical abilities I feel like I’m on the right path to be the black sheep of this hobby.

APV:  So tell us about Project Zen FPV.

Gino:  Project Zen is a platform for FPV pilots all over the world. Bringing everyone together not only for great conversation and FPV related themes but also to be essential in the community in all angles. With project zen I provide pilots with incentives to become better skilled and even more amazing people all at the same time. Every member gets filtered through me so our harmonious state remains at 100% at all times. All of our members are key to what is at state and the amazing part about it is that it all happens organically. Meaning each member is truly important for what we are building. Project Zen will be the leading community in FPV sooner than later simply because of our goal. I am honored to be leading such an amazing team and will never stop fighting for what we believe in. I can say from the bottom of my heart that I love each of our members. They are my family.

APV:  That’s such an inspiring message.  I think it can and will resonate with a lot of FPV pilots.  Tell us about your crew.

Gino:  We are all based on great energy and vibes. I’ve always said, “surround yourself with great people and achieve amazing goals together.”  We all put in our part into the community and make a difference everyday. Whether it be helping a fellow pilot or even creating a zero waste FPV circle to help this world that’s in dire need for assistance. Karma, we all live by it.

APV:  What kind of advice would you give to someone getting started in FPV Drones?

Gino:  Be patient. Everyone wants to be sponsored and get free stuff but remember, this FPV life is about more than that. Fly for yourself. Fly to be free! Everything else will come on its own.

APV:  Is there anything you know now that you wish you did when you were starting out with FPV drones?

Gino:  Building is an art. It takes time and patience to create a masterpiece. Don’t rush your process. Make sure it’s done right so you don’t have to go flying one day and spend the entire time doing silly repairs for rushing.

APV:  What would you say your biggest challenge has been with FPV drones?

Gino:  Balance. We become very addicted to this hobby because of how it makes us feel. The adrenaline rush is real. Remember, you still have a life to upkeep. Balance your daily living the right way so it fits in well together. Don’t just fly all day everyday and forget about life. FPV will be there after you take a break don’t worry, I promise.

APV:  What do you love most about this hobby?

Gino:  The people and the community! I’ve met some amazing people in this community. So much so I decided to start and build my own called Project Zen. A global platform for FPV pilots across the globe. Everyone I’ve encountered so far has had such a good vibe. I also love the adrenaline rush I get every time I plug in a lipo!

APV:  What is your goal?

Gino:  My goal is to be a global brand, not just for FPV but for everyone, to create something that’s positive and noticeable for the world to see and feel. FPV is just the beginning of this. Bringing people together is a great feeling especially when the support you receive in return is constant and unconditional.

Gino Carpio has done many things, and by the looks of it, he is just getting started.
