Hello Everyone, I became interested in drones because of the amazing technology put into them by companies like DJI, Parrot and Autel.  I think that is probably the initial draw for most people.

I mean think about it, most of them have GPS, incredible flight range, take amazing photos and videos and practically fly themselves.

They’re like flying cameraman robots.

So freakin’ cool.  Modern technology is an awesome thing.

Then I started researching getting into FPV drones

I then spent the next year over-researching (I have a habit of doing that) all of the top brands.

I read a thousand blog posts, watched hundreds of videos, I even borrowed a couple drones from trusting friends.  I’m super indecisive so I didn’t pull the trigger.

My wife, on the other hand, did. She surprised me with a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum, which was exactly the one I wanted.  I guess I can blame her then for this new addiction???

I flew the thing all the time (still do) and honed my skills at aerial photography netting me pics like this…

I was hooked!!!

Then I saw this video….

I honestly didn’t even know what I was seeing at first.  I thought maybe it was a cable cam, or possibly a 360° camera.  Then I Googled “FPV drone” and a whole new world opened up to me.

As of writing this I am only about 6 months into this FPV journey.

I have a 5” mini quad, which I purchased second hand from the guy that did the build.  Incidentally he was getting out of the hobby so I was able to pick up all of his gear and parts for a great price.

I also have a whoop that I’ve been training on in my front yard almost daily as well as the simulator.

Drone Nation app is a great app when getting into FPV drones.

A couple months ago I became aware of an app called Drone Nation (full review here) which connects pilots of all skill levels.  I was able to connect with @APVDrone and @badmechaaron and I hope to do more meet-ups in the future. If you’re into any kind of drone flying make sure to download the Drone Nation app.

In my opinion it’s critical to connect with other pilots.  It’ll help you advance much faster than if you were to go at it alone.

There’s a lot to learn in this hobby and it’s way easier to take it all in from other people than it is to read countless blog posts and endlessly watch YouTube videos.

To be honest, this is a hobby I am still trying to learn. So if you have any tips please let me know in comment box below.  Visit my Instagram to see how far my journey has progressed…
